- Trust your instincts:
If something doesn’t feel right, or look right… Leave. Besides the best way to avoid a confrontation is to get out of a situation before it happens. Hence trust your Gut. Likewise cross the street if you are concerned, leave the party. Additionally don’t go into any situation that doesn’t feel right.
2. Be aware of your surroundings:
Avoid remote areas. Make sure you are walking in well lit areas. Meanwhile stay alert, and walk confidently with your shoulders up. Furthermore own your space. In addition walk were there are other people. At night park under a light.
3. Use your Body:
a) If attacked yell as loud as you can. Help, Police, I’m being assaulted. These are all good… just YELL and create attention.
b) Kick anywhere you can; shins, groin, knees. Albiet these are all good locations, but try to kick in the groin area.
c) Bite anything that gets in your path; arms, fingers, hands, face etc.
d) Scratch the perpetrater like a cat… aim for the eyes, the face, the kneck, the arms. However dig your nails in, your life may depend on it.
e) Hit with all your might. face shots, throat punch, neck shots, ears, groin.
4. Carry self defense items:
Some great items to carry are a whiste, pepper spray, taser, sharp metal pen.
5. Take self defense classes:
When you take self defense classes you build confidence. Accordingly you get to practice different situations and scenarios. Muscle memory is built, and your posture alone will tell any would be assailant to think twice.
